SHARPSBURG, Ga. -- In high school footballs rivalries, the lines are usually easily distinguished by bright school colors. At 11Alive's Game of the Week Friday, the rivalry will fade into solid sea of gray.

East Coweta High and Sandy Creek have asked their students to wear gray in honor of the battle against the brain cancer that took the life of their beloved classmate.

Seventeen-year-old junior Madeline McTier was a well loved cheerleader seen on the sports sidelines for the past two years.

Her father, Michel McTier, said she wanted to be a cheerleader since she was a little girl. The father, like daughter, has a strong faith. "Cheerleading allowed her that opportunity to the confidence to speak to anyone and show her faith to anyone."

Friends and strangers had cheered her through surgery, chemo and radiation treatments, supporting a hugely popular Facebook page with thousands of well wishes from all over the nation.

It's now a memorial page promoting a fundraiser for her family on September 22.

Her principal spoke with 11Alive Wednesday on behalf of the school and Madeline's family.

"The moment that you came in contact with her, she just lifted you up," Evan Horton said. "She was a fighter, just the type of person that in 17 brief years on this earth, she probably did more than most people could do in a lifetime of 80."

"Madeline was a fighter to the end," her father said.
