Investigators determined that 23-year-old Briahna Baker of Suwanee was killed on the side of Interstate 85 northbound around 4:30 a.m.
While intoxicated, she was riding in a vehicle on the highway. Cpl. Edwin Ritter said the intoxication caused an argument between Baker and the driver. The driver pulled the car over on the side of the highway, and Baker got out.
Ritter said she fought any attempt to get back into the vehicle, so the driver left her behind.
The Police Department started getting calls of a person stumbling near the highway, Ritter said. Callers said she looked to be drunk.
As officers responded to the scene, Baker was hit be a vehicle heading north in the right hand lane of the interstate. She died on the scene. Officers said alcohol played a part in the accident.
Police have made no charges against the driver.
