GWINNETT COUNTY, Ga. -- Search and rescue crews found the body of a man who was missing in the Chattahoochee River Thursday afternoon.
It happened north of Jones Bridge Park, near Medlock Bridge Road and Ridgegate Drive NW in Duluth, according to Capt. Tommy Rutledge of the Gwinnett County Fire Department.
Search and rescue crews scanned the river for more than two hours while searching for the man. Rutledge said the boat hit a submerged tree, and the man fell out.
The boat was a 12-foot Jon Boat, Rutledge said. The man was on board with a friend, and was wearing no life jacket. The man was unable to swim.
A police helicopter flew over the river during the search, and used an infrared search tool to scan the water.
