CHEROKKE COUNTY, Ga. -- Cherokee County residents are under a boil water advisory Thursday morning.
The Cherokee County Water and Sewerage Authority issued the advisory to the FreeHome and Ball Ground areas around 9:30 a.m.
Officials said residents should boil water for at least one minute after reaching boiling point before any water is consumed.
Once lab tests have been carried out and they confirm water is safe, the advisory will be lifted. Officials expect to lift that advisory before Thursday's afternoon hours.
During the advisory, the water pressure will likely drop, due to a failure on the main distribution line of the Free Home tank. With the decreased water pressure in the water system, health hazard become possible from back flow of the water.
11Alive News will be in touch with the Water and Sewage Authority, and will let Cherokee County residents know when the boil water notice is lifted.
