ATLANTA, Ga. -- According to a study conducted by Emory students, University of Georgia fans are more "loyal and devoted" than fans of any other team the the Southeastern Conference.
The study, conducted by Mike Lewis & Manish Tripathi, ranks the University of Georgia's fan base number one; ahead of University of Alabama, Auburn and University of Florida -- all of which rank among the top ranked football fan bases in the country.
The study cited difference in annual revenue as the dependent variable in the study and it determined each school's rank:
So, what separates Georgia from Alabama? Over the period of our study, both Georgia and Alabama averaged between 9 and 10 wins a season. However, Georgia averaged 12% more in revenues per year than Alabama. Alabama also had a couple of years in the beginning of our sample (2002 & 2004) where the home games were not all filled to capacity.
The study also analyzed schools in the ACC, American Athletic League, BIG 12, BIG 10 and PAC 12 Conferences.
