CEDARTOWN, Ga. -- Police have caught the man accused of pulling two children out of his vehicle after he crashed it, and then leaving the kids at the scene of the wreck.

Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said one of the children, 6-year-old Trent Brooks, later died at a hospital.

The other child, 5-year-old Gabriel Brooks, was seriously injured in the one-car wreck along Tallapoosa Highway near Cedartown Sunday morning.

Wright said a witness told troopers the driver, 42-year-old Robert Nelson Wood of Tallapoosa, pulled the children from the car and ran away.

The state patrol said Wood was found about three-quarters of a mile from the crash site after a manhunt. It wasn't immediately known whether he has an attorney.

Gabriel Brooks is being treated as a hospital in Chattanooga, Tenn.
