FAIRBURN, Ga. -- Fairburn police said Sunday morning they were relieved to find a missing child safe and unharmed in Gwinnett County.
The 22-month-old child was taken by his mother on Saturday afternoon during a supervised visit. The father of the child told police Porsha Reeder lost custody of her child due to abandonment issues and past drug abuse. He said she had also threatened the child before.
"Any time we've got a threat against someone's life, even in the past, we want to act very quickly, especially when we're talking about a child," said Sgt. Anthony Bazydlo of the Fairburn Police Department.
When Gwinnett police found the address of Reeder's mother, they found the child safe and sound.
"It is definitely a feeling of relief, knowing the child is safe and back with his father now," Sgt. Bazydlo.
Reeder had not been located by Sunday afternoon. Bazydlo said they will continue trying to arrest her, most likely under charges of kidnapping and interfering with child custody.
