MCDONOUGH, Ga. -- After taking a week off for the Fourth of July, the 11Alive morning crew resumed its "This is Home" road tour with a trip back to Henry County.

The team broadcast live from downtown McDonough on Friday, July 12. A great crowd, which included longtime mayor Billy Copeland, gathered at the town square to mingle, perform and say good morning to Ted Hall and Elle Duncan.

The Henry County Humane Society showed off a number of adorable dogs that are up for adoption -- in fact, an 11Alive producer almost took one home.

Some of the city's most popular culinary destinations also made appearances. Gritz Family Restaurant offers delicious yet affordable breakfasts, while KirbyG's Diner & Pub has been voted the "Best Burger in ATL" two years in a row.

A number of performance groups turned out as well, including Dance Academy of McDonough and cast members from two Henry County Players productions. Ariana Neal, who was on "America's Got Talent" at age 5, sang an Alicia Keys song for the crowd.

McDonough is home to a number of family-friendly attractions. Parents and children alike enjoy picking berries at Southern Belle Farm and seeing the famous BLT -- a bear, a lion and a tiger that live together -- at Noah's Ark. 11Alive's Jennifer Leslie profiled both attractions.

One of the show's most memorable moments featured a Noah's Ark resident -- Gabe, a 24-year-old spider monkey. Before going on TV, Gabe got a little camera shy and began to attack a sign held by one of the spectators. It didn't make it on the air, but you can watch it here:
