CLAYTON COUNTY, Ga. -- Imagine this, you turn on your faucet at home and find the water that comes out, the water you would normally drink, with a bad smell and a taste that is even worse.

For one Clayton County neighborhood, that's their reality.

"I noticed it a couple days ago, seems like it just got stronger to me," Debra Richards said.
"And it's just got kind of an odor to it. It's real bad to me, I prefer not to even drink it."

According to other people living on Brittnay Lane this is a problem that has been going on for at least three weeks, and no one knows why.

After speaking with the County Water Authority, they said the problem was simple - algae blooming in one of the water plants.

The algae is not dangerous, and according to officials, as soon as they found out, the shut the plant off to keep it from flowing to customers.

"The water remains safe at all times," said Suzanne Brown of Clayton Co. Water Authority. "We know it's not as aesthetically pleasing to the customers as they're used to. So it's just a matter of our maintenance staff out trying to flush the hydrants and get the water out as quickly as we can."
