WOODSTOCK, Ga. -- Sitting in a wheelchair, unable to speak, Emily Bowman returned to her Woodstock home for the first time since she was hurt back in February.

The Kennesaw State student spent three weeks in a coma after being hit by a drunk driver on February 16, followed by months of recovery at the Shepherd Center and Children's Healthcare of Atlanta.

"It's just hard because I'm so appreciative of everything that's been done for us," said Emily's mother, Debra Bowman.

Atlanta-based Sunshine on a Ranney Day completely remade Bowman's home. Holly Ranney, founder of Sunshine on a Ranney Day, said she and her team feel blessed to be a part of Emily's homecoming. Her organization creates dream room makeovers for children with long-term illnesses.

"During these past couple of weeks of working on their home, we have seen how strong and amazing they are. It's so hard to see and hear what they have to go through every day. This inspires us even more to make sure the work that we do on their home makes their lives so much better to what they are going to have to go through each day with taking care of Emily. The reveal days are my most favorite days," Ranney said.
