Theater of the Stars producer Christopher B. Manos posted a letter Wednesday on the non-profit company's website, saying it needs to raise $500,000 by July 12 or it will close its doors for good. It must also raise an additional $500,000 by Aug. 30 to continue the 2013 season, which includes productions of Disney's The Little Mermaid, STOMP and Cats, according to the letter.

"I know that our goals and timeline are daunting, but we are fighters and we know you are behind us," Manos said in the letter. "We are coming to the community and our strongest supporters for help. We need you right now."

The Fox Theatre, which hosts Theater of the Stars' shows, said the 60-year-old company had to cancel its upcoming production of BUDDY - The Buddy Holly Story due to lack of funds.

"The Fox Theatre has been empathetic of the economic challenges Theater of the Stars has faced in the past and has supported Theater of the Stars in numerous ways since they first began presenting shows at the Fox Theatre," Fox Theatre spokeswoman Beth Carter said in a statement. "We sincerely hope that they are able to recover from this fiscal challenge."

Patrons who bought tickets for BUDDY - The Buddy Holly Story can contact the Fox Theatre at 404-881-2017 or boxoffice@foxtheatre.org for refunds.
