FORSYTH, Ga. (WMAZ) -- A Macon police officer has been relieved of her badge and gun after she was arrested in Monroe County on a drug charge.

That's according to a news release from the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

The release says 27-year-old Kontrina Lanette Toomer and 30-year-old Horace Wise were arrested in their home Thursday afternoon on North Frontage Road in Forsyth.

The Forsyth drug squad arrived around 2:45 p.m. and found packaged marijuana, some pills, a semi-automatic handgun, and around $4,000 in cash.

Horace Wise, whom the sheriff's office says is a registered sex offender, faces seven charges, most of which are gun and drug related.

According to the release, Kontrina Toomer faces a charge of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and a charge of reckless conduct for child endangerment.

The release says there were children in the home who are now staying with relatives. It is not clear whose children they are.

While Toomer was at the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Macon Police Internal Affairs relieved her of her official weapon, badge, and other work-related property.

Chief of Police Mike Carswell and Internal Affairs Director, Terry Timley, got word of the arrests late Thursday afternoon, according to a news release.

While Chief Carswell did not specifically state what would be next as far as Toomer's employment, he issued the following statement:

"Of course we are very disappointed in the alleged behavior of this officer, but anyone within our ranks who breaks the law is not welcome in the Macon Police Department. We support the work of the Monroe County Sheriff's Office and will cooperate fully during the course of this investigation. Any MPD officer charged with criminal behavior can expect serious consequences."

According to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office, Toomer was released on her own recognizance shortly after the arrest.
