Most of Georgia is under a "slight risk" area for severe weather Thursday afternoon and evening.

Portions of the Mid-Atlantic states are under a "moderate risk" area for severe weather.

Heavy thunderstorms with high winds, large hail and vivid lightning are possible across the region, beginning around 4 p.m., according to 11Alive meteorologist Chesley McNeil.

Before the storms, highs across metro Atlanta are expected to climb into the lower 90s. Overnight and after the passage of a cold front, drier conditions will cool the area back into the upper 60s. Temperatures on Friday are expected to be in the mid 80s under sunny skies.
