CARTERSVILLE, Ga. -- The Cartersville Police Department took William Dexter Weems, Jr. into custody on Monday, who allegedly shot a female in Cartersville last week.

When the incident happened on Wednesday, June 12, Captain Mark Camp said police were called to the scene at a Stokley Street apartment around 3:00 p.m.

As police were told, a female was shot in the leg by her sister's boyfriend while the three were having an argument. The male fled from the apartment immediately after the shooting.

The female who was shot was taken to be treated at Floyd Medical Center, while the other female was taken to Cartersville Medical Center for complaints of superficial injuries, Camp said.

He had no further information on the condition of the victims.

Shortly after the shooting, Camp said police secured warrants for aggravated assault and battery. Additional charges are possible for Weems.
