HARALSON COUNTY, Ga. -- Dozens of people packed a Haralson County Department of Education meeting Tuesday night to show support for a fired school bus driver.
Johnny Cook was fired after posting a message on Facebook that criticized school officials for reportedly letting a student go hungry. The student told Cook he was denied food when his lunch money account ran out.
The school system demanded Cook remove the Facebook post and apologize or lose his job. Cook refused and was fired.
School officials have released surveillance video that they say shows the student never tried to go through the cafeteria food line on the day he complained to Cook.
The Haralson County School Board has also now approved a pilot program to serve free breakfast and lunch to all students.
