ATLANTA -- Atlanta's metro transit authority projects that it will keep fares at current levels for the budget year that begins July 1.

The MARTA board will meet Monday to consider an $857.4 million spending plan for the next fiscal year. That includes almost $430 million for operations and more than $430 million for capital expenses. The capital portion includes $141 million in debt payments.

MARTA officials had previously projected the need for a 25-cent fare increase.

Georgia lawmakers paid close attention to MARTA spending during the General Assembly's 2013 session. But Republican leaders couldn't get enough support for sweeping changes that would have forced the agency to privatize many of its functions.

MARTA says it will be outsourcing some of its divisions voluntarily.
