MACON, GA (WMAZ) -- A man died early Wednesday morning in a west Macon shopping center.
Just before 3:30 a.m., Macon police officers were checking the shops at the Presidential Parkway shopping center when they noticed a suspicious car with two people inside.
Police spokesman Melanie Hofmann says the men became combative during questioning.
While one was subdued by pepper spray, the other ran away and started to scale a fence.
One officer, Hofmann says, tried to warn the man about the large drop on the other side of the fence, but the man went over anyway, falling about 50 feet.
When officers made their way to the bottom of the drop-off, they found the man's body lying on the ground.
He was pronounced dead at the scene, but his identity has not been released.
According to a police news release, the GBI will be assisting the Macon Police with the investigation.
