ATLANTA -- An SUV and the child inside were recovered after someone stole the SUV Thursday morning in northwest Atlanta.

It happened just before 8 a.m. near the intersection of Bolton Road and Marietta Boulevard.

Hillary Grotewold told 11Alive News she was putting air in the tires of her GMC Terrain at a RaceTrac station at the corner of Bolton and Marietta when someone hopped into the SUV and drove off. Grotewold's 4-year-old son, Jerren, was in the back seat.

Grotewold jumped onto the SUV, screamed, fell off, ran after it, jumped at the SUV again, and the carjacker then abandoned the vehicle at a nearby CVS Pharmacy and ran away.

The suspect was described as a black male with a gray hat and gray backpack. Jones said he took Grotewold's purse and iPhone.
