Officers arrest Athens man following copper theft

ATHENS, Ga. -- Athens-Clarke County Police officers arrested a 29-year-old man on Wednesday, and have charged him with burglary.

On Monday morning just before 10:00, officers received a phone call about a suspicious man walking behind the homes in the 1900 block of Lexington Road. The caller, as reported by the ACCPD, was putting unknown items in a rollaway trash container.

Officers got to the scene and made contact with them man. APD said they immediately took the suspect, Vladimir Harper into custody and transported him to the East Precinct for questioning. 

Nearby, officers found an amplifier and a bag containing $270 worth of copper pieces. After more investigation, officers concluded that the man has burglarized a vacant building in the area.
