SILVER CREEK, Ga. -- Owning your own home - it's the American dream. But for Connie Reeves, that was just the beginning.

She is homeless.

"Everybody has it rough right now. You have to make the best of whatever you have and that's what I have done," Reeves said. "But it's okay, I make the best of it. It's hard and I don't recommend it to anybody."

She lives in her car with netting over it to keep out the bugs.

Before her mother died, Reeves promised her she would build a house on the property the family owned. So she set out alone to build it, one stone at a time.

"I know a lot of stuff is not right. Some people may laugh at it or whatever but it's coming along. I am just taking it one step at a time," Reeves said.

Then something magical happened.

Neighbor Jennifer Grissom saw what was going on and put it on Facebook. People started showing up, making donations and getting involved.

"We don't know how to build a house but we are trying. We are trying to get supplies and as long as there are supplies we are going to do it," Grissom said.

The 11Alive Help Desk contacted the Home Depot.

From the Rome Home Depot store will come building supplies, along with a team of store experts to help Reeves build that house - a lot faster than one stone at a time.

Suddenly Reeves went from being alone to being surrounded by an entire community coming together.

"Incredible," she said. "You wouldn't know the feeling that people get, so much energy, so much positive stuff going on. It's incredible and makes you feel really good."
