ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- A judge has denied a request by a man accused in a DUI hit-and-run accident to relocate and remove his ankle monitoring device. He is accused of hitting 19-year-old Emily Bowman Feb. 16 and fleeing the scene afterward.

William Heaton appeared in Clarke County Court Wednesday and told a judge he'd like to remove his ankle monitoring device and move to Bartow County to live with his grandfather so he could work. A judge denied both requests and ordered that he stay in Oconee County with his mother.

Heaton has been charged with hit-and-run, DUI, serious injury by motor vehicle, failure to maintain lane, open container and reckless driving.

Heaton is out of jail on $50,000 bond.

Emily Bowman was hospitalized with brain injuries.
