ATLANTA -- A Friday night SWAT standoff in northeast Atlanta ended peacefully when officers arrested a man who barricaded himself inside his home.
Atlanta police captain Tim Peek says the incident began when the man fought with police at a checkpoint. He then ran inside his home on Mayson Avenue. Negotiatiors tried to coax him out, but Peek says they were unsuccesful so officers used tear gas inside the house. They eventually arrested the man without further incident.
Capt. Peek says there were family members inside the home at the time, but they were not harmed, nor were they ever in danger.
The man faces multiple charges, including traffic violations, obstruction and fighting with police officers.
