Authorities search for attempted abductor in Canton

CANTON, Ga. -- Authorities are searching for a man who they think attempted to abduct an adult woman near the First Baptist Church of Canton on Thursday morning.

According to a release from the City of Canton, a woman reported being threatened by an man with a gun while she was walking on the sidewalk near Reservoir Drive. 

The woman told officers that a man had emerged from a wooded area where she was walking and threatened to abduct her.  When the woman crossed the street, her "would be" abductor retreated back into to the wooded area. The woman flagged down a car and called 911.

According to the victim, the suspect is a as white male in his early 30's. The victim also reported that the man was wearing a burgundy shirt with long sleeves, blues jeans, a khaki baseball cap and sunglasses. He was last seen headed toward the Great Sky community on foot. 

The City of Canton has deployed their Marine Patrol crew, Canton K-9 team and police department in search of the suspect. 

Authorities recommend that residents should not confront the individual, keep all windows and doors locked and call 911 if they spot anything specific.
