Amtrak train hits car, 3 occupants from Austell killed

Neighbors told 11Alive News they have been trying for years to improve this dangerous and barely visible crossing where 3 young adults lost their lives Friday night.

TOCCOA, Ga--A male and two females from Austell were killed Friday night when their car was struck by an Amtrak train at a crossing in Stephens County.

The accident occurred around 10 p.m. Friday night on Grant Road near Rock Quarry Circle. The vehicle was struck on the drivers side. One person was ejected from the car.

Authorities say the vehicle was pushed down the tracks by the train when it burst into flames.

The victims have not been identified. The accident remains under investigation by the Georgia State Patrol.
