Westlake's Dejuan Powell loves golf, pursues his dreams.

ATLANTA -- The game in which players call penalties on themselves has been used many times to illustrate sports reveals character.  In the case of Westlake High School's DeJuan Powell, golf has helped him bring order to a previously chaotic life.

Powell moved here to live with his uncle when circumstances at home became unbearable. He'd never played golf, but he "fell in love with it" the first time he hit a golf ball.

Now, the Westlake sophomore is pursuing his dreams on and off the course.

"My goal is go to go college, then be a pro." Whether that means teaching pro or tour pro is irrelevant at this point. "I'm more proud of the young man he's become" said coach Angus Guberman.

Powell played in an event at Doral in Florida and he recently was the guest of an anonymous benefactor at a Masters practice round.  New worlds are opening up to him, but he realizes he won't see them without lots of hard work.

"I've got to do the little things, the big things will follow."
