(Atlanta Business Chronicle) -- The man behind the "Dukes of Hazzard" reunion festival in Byron, Ga., says he is in talks with Burt Reynolds and Sally Field to extend the event next year to include a "Smokey and the Bandit" reunion.
Organizer Chris Jennings said if the event materializes, he expects up to 100,000 people to attend. The "Dukes of Hazzard" reunion held a month ago at the Middle Georgia Raceway attracted 53,000 people and brought an estimated $1 million to the area's economy, reports The Macon Telegraph.
In "Smoke and the Bandit," which was released in 1977, Reynolds played Bo "Bandit" Darville, a Trans Am-driving rascal hired to get a tractor trailer truck full of beer across county lines. All the while, Sheriff Buford T. Justice (Jackie Gleason) was is in hot pursuit.Sally Field played a runaway bride picked up along the way.
Gleason died in 1987 of cancer. The truck driver, Cletus "Snowman" Snow (Jerry Reed) died in 2008 as a result of complications from emphysema, the Telegraph reported.
Perry Swanson, president of the Peach County Chamber of Commerce, told the Macon Telegraph it is realistic to think 100,000 people would attend if Reynolds and Field participate.
"I think it could double in size," he said of the reunion festival.
