(USA TODAY) -- Army officials are investigating a Wednesday afternoon shooting that caused a temporary lockdown at Fort Knox, according to news reports.

There were no immediate reports of casualties, a spokesman told WDRB-TV. The lockdown was lifted about 7 p.m., but traffic was in and out of the fort was slow because of increased security.

The shooting happened near the Humans Resources Command, which has 3,800 employees.

Fort Knox, about 35 miles from Louisville, Ky., is home to more than 40,000 soldiers, family members and civilian employees.

The 109,000-acre complex is adjacent to the other "Fort Knox" -- the fortified U.S. Bullion Depository that holds much of the nation's official gold reserves.
