(USA TODAY) -- With much of the sports-following world still heated about the video that showed now-dismissed Rutgers head basketball coach Mike Rice physically and verbally abusing his players, leave it to former Braves infielder and obvious 80s-movie villain Larry "Chipper" Jones to come to Rice's defense:

Chipper Jones tweeted "I got cursed at and called names by a ton of people growing up. Were they fired? Nope! Do I care? Nope! What's the big deal? Toughen up!"

Just minutes later, Jones' second tweet said, "Yeah, been hit w/ bball equipment on purpose, been dragged around a football field by my facemask and ran suicides til I puked! I ain't mad."

And hey, without that fine coaching, Jones might not be the balanced and reasonable individual he is today.

But just because something has happened in the past doesn't justify its continuing in the future. The idea is for us all to get better, right? And there's a pretty big distinction between a coach disciplining a player with wind sprints and a coach firing basketballs and homophobic slurs at his team.
