ATLANTA -- U.S. Marshalls have arrested a fugitive in Atlanta who they say has been on the run since 1982.

Inspector Gavin Duffy said Gilbert Rico was convicted of involuntary manslaughter 31 years ago in Harris County, Texas. Immediately after, the fugitive fled to Mexico while on bond, and did not appear for sentencing.

Authorities learned in March that Rico had returned to the United States, and was living in Atlanta. On Tuesday morning around 6:45, U.S. Marshalls began surveillance on the location where Rico was suspected to be, and arrested him.

"No matter how long it has been since the warrant has been issued, we simply do not stop pursuing the fugitive," Chief Inspector Keith Booker said. "Sooner or later, we will find and arrest them."
