USATODAY -- Former New York Giants defensive end Osi Umenyiora also remains unemployed but, according to a USAToday report, is getting nibbles from also unemployed John Abraham's former team, the Atlanta Falcons.
Umenyiora, who lives in Atlanta, met with the Falcons on Wednesday, a person informed of the visit between the sides told USA TODAY Sports. The person spoke on condition of anonymity because the team hasn't confirmed the visit.
The Falcons need another pass rusher to help offset the loss of Abraham. Umenyiora, who has 75 career sacks in 10 seaons with the Giants and came up big in their Super Bowl runs in 2007 and 2011, could help provide a pass-rushing presence.
However, he wants to prove he can do a lot more than that. Perceived as a situational player by many, Umenyiora wrote to USA TODAY Sports via email before the start of free agency to say he's aiming to be the defensive player of the year this upcoming season.
It remains to be seen which uniform he'll be wearing when he attempts to accomplish that goal.
