MACON, Ga. -- Charges have been upgraded against a man arrested in the death of a man who died after a fight at a nightclub.
A grand jury indicted 33-year-old Jeremy Lee Jackson Tuesday on charges of murder and aggravated assault in the Jan. 2011 death of 30-year-old Gary Mimbs.
Jackson was initially charged with involuntary manslaughter and was released on bond in February 2011.
Mimbs' parents filed a wrongful death lawsuit against Jackson, the nightclub and four bouncers, saying he was dropped on the pavement after he lost consciousness during a fight. Mimbs' relatives say injuries to his spinal cord and brain stem may have been exacerbated.
Jackson's lawyer, Reza Sedghi, says he was defending himself and Mimbs died because he was dropped on the pavement.
