ATLANTA -- Seventeen people were killed in traffic accidents in Georgia over the holiday weekend, which began at 6 p.m. Friday and ended at midnight Tuesday.
The Georgia State Patrol recorded 685 crashes during that period of time. About 300 people were injured, while 11 were killed, according to GSP records.
An additional six people were reported killed by other traffic agencies across Georgia.

Only three people were reported killed during the same block of time in 2011, according to the GSP. Foggy weather may have contributed to this year's increase.
