VALDOSTA, Ga. -- Valdosta Police have confirmed that F.B.I. agents are now assisting them with their investigation into the death of freshman Jasmine Benjamin.
The F.B.I. joins a growing list of law enforcement agencies involved with the case including campus police, the city police department and the G.B.I.
Investigators say Benjamin, a 17 year old from Lawrenceville, was found dead on a couch in the study hall of her campus dormitory. Police say her death may have gone unnoticed for several hours by students who assumed she was asleep.
After an initial autopsy, police say they were convinced the teen had been killed although they have not released the official cause of death.
Jasmine's parents, family and friends attended an emotional funeral service for the popular student Nov. 29.
Her parents have hired an attorney and private investigator to help search for her killer.
