LEAGONE, Haiti (KUSA) -- President Jimmy Carter is calling it a disgrace to the international community that help promised to Haiti has never arrived nearly three years after the earthquake.

Carter traveled to Haiti with a group of volunteers - and reporters Cheryl Preheim and Matt Renoux from 11Alive's Denver sister station, KUSA.

Volunteers from Denver and across the world went to Haiti because 400,000 people in Haiti are still without homes.

People around the world pledged to help - including many people in Denver.

President Carter says the Haitian government is stabilizing, and it's time to invest in Haiti to finish the recovery.

Adaline has been living with three children in a tent. She is married, but she lost her sister in the earthquake. She will be living in a home the Denver group of Habitat volunteers are building. It is a joyful time for them to think they will be homeowners. They will have a safe place to live and a future.

The roof is starting to go up on their homes, and the construction site is quickly taking shape into a community. Walking around it all is one guy who has a cowboy hat rather than a construction hat most of the time. Garth Brooks is there with Trisha Yearwood - encouraging the volunteers.
