ATLANTA -- Mayor Kasim Reed played a prominent role campaigning for President Barack Obama in 2012. Mayor Reed says he appeared on more than 40 national programs, traveled to the battleground states of Florida and Ohio and he was invited to be with President Obama and his team on election night.

Today, 11Alive spoke with the mayor about that strong relationship, what it means for his political future and presidential politics in 2016.

Mayor Reed on his political ambitions when asked if he would take a position in the Obama administration, if asked:

"No way. And I'm glad you asked that question. Vice President Biden called me today and yesterday just to say thanks. And I really appreciated that. My home is Atlanta," Reed said. "I'm going to offer myself for re-election for mayor. That's the only job that I want and if I'm fortunate enough to be reelected I'm going to serve out my term. I think it's very important that I finish the job that I started."

Mayor Reed when asked about his next 'dream' job:

"I don't know, that's a great question. I want to be a two-term mayor and serve out my term and then work real hard to help select the next Democratic nominee."

Mayor Reed on presidential politics in four years:

"I believe in 2016, the state will be a competitive state. And with the people considering running in 2016, I certainly see two or three of them that could win GA. I certainly believe if Hillary Clinton is the nominee in 2016, that she can win Georgia because of the support she would get from women among both parties."
