DEKALB COUNTY, Ga. -- Lisa Gassner has been named interim police chief of DeKalb County.
Gassner is currently assistant chief and will take over for Police Chief William O'Brien when he retires at the end of November.
"Interim Chief Gassner has served admirably in the DeKalb County Police Department for 28 years and knows the organization top to bottom," DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis said in a statement. "The department is in good hands as we make a smooth transition to a permanent replacement."
Gassner joined the DeKalb County Police Department in 1986. She was one of the first women to make the S.W.A.T. team, where she served as a sniper and later became the first female Major in department history. She has supervised several divisions, including the Criminal Investigations Division and Administrative/Technical departments.
