ATLANTA -- Georgia drivers got a big break in the past week as ample supply numbers and contracting demand pushed oil prices to a three-month low last week, AAA Auto Club South reported.

And gas prices are expected to continue to fall even as Hurricane Sandy threatens the East Coast, AAA noted.

The price per gallon in Georgia now averages $3.41, compared with $3.54 a week ago, $3.63 a month ago and $3.38 a year ago.

The price per gallon nationally averages $3.55 -- down 13 cents from last week.

U.S. oil supplies jumped almost 6 million barrels last week to 375 million barrels, the highest level for this time of year since 1982, according to the U.S. Department of Energy. While production holds at a 17-year high, gasoline consumption dropped to its slowest rate since March.

Fuel demand in Europe also remains weak.
