(WXIA) -- A massive 47 car pileup snarled traffic Friday afternoon on an interstate in Sarasota, Fla. The crash happened at about 3 p.m. on Interstate 75.

Our Tampa sister station WTSP says all southbound lanes of I-75 are closed in that area.

Public safety officials told WTSP the crash involved 47 vehicles in the southbound lanes of I-75 on the overpass at University Parkway, on the Manatee/Sarasota County line.

A tanker involved in the crash appeared to be leaking liquid calcium, which is not considered to be hazardous.

Three people were flown to Bayfront Medical Center as trauma alerts. There were a total of 52 patients evaluated, including 19 transported by ground to area hospitals and 30 others treated on scene for minor injuries. Sky 10 video showed people still being transported to the hospital, more than 90 minutes after the crash.

There are no reported fatalities at this time.

Witnesses tell WTSP there was a small but very strong storm in the area at the time of the crash.
