DACULA, Ga. -- Days before he's supposed to begin serving a prison sentence for bribery, the son of former Gwinnett Commissioner Shirley Lasseter was arrested in a manhunt near his Dacula home Friday morning.

Authorities said John Fanning fled his home on Bold Springs Road Friday after a fight with his wife.

Despite initial reports that he had a gun with him, authorities said he was unarmed when SWAT team members found him hiding under brush in the woods behind his home.

Fanning was charged Friday with aggravated assault, false imprisonment, interfering with a call for emergency assistance, and third degree cruelty to children.

On Sept. 18, Fanning was sentenced to four years and nine months in prison after pleading guilty to a bribery scheme involving his mother and an associate.

He was supposed to turn himself in to begin serving that sentence next week.
