AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) -- Authorities in Augusta say a South Carolina woman is dead after she tried to cross a road amid moving traffic and was struck by a car.

25-year-old Elizabeth Oerman of Ridge Spring, S.C., was killed instantly Monday morning as she tried to cross Deans Bridge Road.

Richmond County sheriff's Capt. Scott Gay says a gold Toyota Camry struck the woman after she darted into traffic, stopped and then resumed trying to cross the road. He says the driver that hit her had a green light.

Gay says the fatal crash remains under investigation.
