ATLANTA -- The cost of gas and car insurance is enough to make anyone upset, but a new survey says that Georgians are more miserable than most when it comes to driving.

Georgia ranked 5th in the latest Automotive Misery Index, which is compiled and published by CarInsurance.com.

The survey compares the cost of gas, number of miles driven and price of insurance coverage in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

According to the survey, gas costs an average of $3.84 in Georgia. CarInsurance.com used the statistics of a Honda Accord to come to its conclusions about each state. The survey reveals that Accord drivers in Georgia spend roughly $2,537 on gas a year, and car insurance costs about $1,732.

Mississippi was named the most miserable state for drivers, with Oklahoma, Louisiana and West Virginia joining Georgia to complete the top five. New Hampshire was named the best state, followed by Alaska, Connecticut, Colorado and Washington State.
