LILBURN, Ga. -- A Lilburn man was fatally shot outside his home Wednesday night after police say he aimed a gun at an officer. The weapon turned out to be a BB gun.
According to Gwinnett County Police, officers were responding to a 911 call about an armed man threatening to commit robbery when they arrived at the man's home on Southgate Drive.
"As the first officer approached the residence, he was met by Victor Charles Le who was standing in the driveway armed with a handgun," said a statement issued by Gwinnett Police Detective J.R. Flanagan.
"The officer drew his handgun and gave verbal commands to Le to drop his weapon. Le ignored the commands and walked toward the officer with the gun pointed in his direction. The officer fired one round in response to the threat, striking Le in the chest."
Le died at the scene. He was 20 years old.
The officer was not hurt. He has not been identified and has been put on paid administrative leave, which is standard procedure for officer involved shootings.
