STOCKBRIDGE, Ga. -- A father and his son were hospitalized after walking in on a burglary in progress in their home Tuesday evening.
The shooting happened at around 8:30 p.m. at a home on Edison Drive near Flat Rock Road in Stockbridge's Lexington Park subdivision.
Henry County Police spokesman Sgt. Joey Smith said the father and son, 68-year-old Ronnie Cantrell Sr., and 42-year-old Ronnie Cantrell Jr., arrived home to find two black men in masks robbing their house.
There was an exchange of gunfire. Both Cantrells were hit; Maj. Jason Bolton with Henry County Police said one of the burglary suspects was hit as well.
The two victims were taken to Grady Memorial Hospital. Smith said the older Cantrell was still in critical condition Wednesday morning, while his son's injury was not considered life-threatening.
Smith said one of the suspects checked himself in to Piedmont Henry Hospital with a gunshot wound he sustained during the encounter. Police have identified three additional suspects, but have not yet released any names.
Police also found a 2013 Black Kia Rio they say belonged to the suspects. Smith said witnesses may have seen the car inside the Lexington Park subdivision at or near the time of the shooting.
Anyone with information in this case is asked to call 911 or Henry County Police at 770-288-7242.
