DECATUR, Ga. -- DeKalb County CEO Burrell Ellis has announced a new pilot program that will help carry out the permitting process for partially-constructed homes abandoned because of bankruptcies.

Any builder who wishes to complete construction of a previously permitted, but unfinished home on which work has been suspended for more than 90 days may now apply for a new permit - 'Building Permit for a Previously Permitted Residential Structure.'

According to DeKalb County, the new permit provides for special procedures and fees tailored to the current condition of each home, and sets the fees at amounts proportionate to the remaining work needed to complete each home.
