Residents wade through floodwaters from Hurricane Isaac, New Orleans, Louisiana
ATLANTA -- 11Alive's Help Desk wants you to know that heroes are needed for the victims of Hurricane Isaac. Approximately 2,700 Red Cross disaster workers have deployed to the Gulf Coast states to help with the relief efforts.
Red Cross officials say 5,200 people have had to stay in shelters since the storm began and the number is expected to grow. The Red Cross will be in states affected by Hurricane Isaac for weeks helping people recover. But due to an already difficult summer responding to wildfires, power outages and floods, the resources are stretched.
They are focused on people's emergency needs. They are working with local, state and federal officials and various organizations to coordinate the multi-state relief response, and donations are supporting their efforts.
