COVINGTON, Ga. -- Six school buses from Burke County Middle School, in Waynesboro, were involved in a multi-vehicle accident on Interstate 20 in Newton County Saturday.

According to Lt. Tyrone Oliver, Newton County Sheriff spokesman, one bus driver was airlifted to an Atlanta area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. She was identifed as Angela Anthony, 44, from Midville, GA.

Sixty-one students were tranported and treated at Newton County Medical Center for minor injuries. All were expected to be sent home by the end of the day.

The accident occurred around 11 a.m. Saturday in the westbound lanes at mile marker 97. The students were on their way to Six Flags theme park in Atlanta.

At one point, all westbound lanes and one eastbound lane were closed. They have since reopened.
