ATLANTA -- Fulton County school officials have approved a plan to add more security cameras in the system's high schools.
The school board on Thursday approved the plan to raise the number of cameras from 48 per high school to 60. Officials say the extra cameras are needed to help cut down on blind spots and give administrators greater capability to watch campus security video remotely.
New schools in the system will be designed with 60 security cameras, including Cambridge High in Milton and the replacement school for Banneker High in College Park. Existing schools eventually will be retrofitted to handle the expansion.
Officials estimate the security upgrades will cost $850,000 to $1 million. They plan to use a special sales tax to pay for it.
