  • ATLANTA -- Derrick Miller is 11Alive's new Fugitive of the Week.

Miller is wanted by the U.S. Marshals Southeast Regional Fugitive Task Force. The 25-year-old Atlanta man has outstanding warrants from the Atlanta Police Department for aggravated assault, possession of a firearm, and child cruelty.

Police said on Sept. 8, 2011, Miller and an unidentified suspect followed Patrick Belton home from the grocery store to Belton's Lee Street apartment. When Belton got out of his car while holding his three-year old son, police said Miller and the other man began shooting at them.

Police said Miller and his associate fired 11 times at Belton and his son.

"Somehow, neither of them was hit or harmed in any way," said Inspector Erik Richmond of the U.S. Marshals. "It could have very easily been a homicide."

Police said a dispute between Miller and Belton began two weeks prior to the shooting when the two got into an altercation at Central Station, a club in East Point. The two argued over a woman, according to Inspector Richmond.

Richmond said Miller followed Belton home after that altercation, but Belton knew he was being followed and eluded Miller.

The two got into another altercation one day before the shooting at Club Crucial on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway in Bankhead. Belton told police Miller disrespected his girlfriend.

Miller is featured on Rowson's Crime Scene with other Fugitives of the Week. Anyone with information about Miller's whereabouts should call Crime Stoppers Atlanta at 404-577-TIPS(8477). You can also email the U.S. Marshals directly from our site.
