VANCOUVER, BC -- In an image published widely by newspapers and in television coverage carried across Canada and the United States, a couple is caught lying in the middle of the street kissing, while riot police around them work to restore order.
The city of Vancouver erupted in riots after the Vancouver Canucks lost the final game of the NHL's Stanley Cup Final Wednesday night at Rogers Arena in Vancouver.
Local media were not able to get the identity of the young couple.
In Toronto's Globe and Mail newspaper, which is sold across Canada, photographer Richard Lam was quoted as pointing out that the couple was in "no-man's land" between the groups of riot police, using pepper spray and tear gas to subdue the rioting crowds in Vancouver's normally quiet streets.
