ATLANTA - Come Saturday, a group of teens will finally have a space to call their own.

The Andrew and Walter Young YMCA will officially open the Maya Angelou Teen Center, and Dr. Angelou will be on hand to dedicate her namesake.

The center will include a performing arts space, cyber-cafe, computer lab and boutique and will house the YMCA's numerous teen programs, including their summer camp.

"Our teens decided some years ago that they thought their niche was the performing arts," said YMCA executive director Diane Baker-King.

"And after they had the opportunity to meet Dr. Maya Angelou a few years ago, they really became interested."

The Maya Angelou Teen Center is more than three years in the making; fundraising kicked off in 2008 at Dr. Angelou's 80th birthday celebration.

The grand opening ceremony will be held Saturday, June 18th from 3:00 to 5:00 pm. 11Alive's own Donna Lowry will serve as emcee for the event.

For more information, call the Andrew and Walter Young Family YMCA at 404-523-9622.
